Wine is a fruit and fruit is healthy.

It’s true that I am a crazy bit of a health nut, and yes, this blog (let’s affectionately call it RTA from here on out, shall we?) was begun as a healthy living blog and a way for me to share my life of running, training, and overall health and wellness balance while living in the world’s craziest, greatest city. Naturally, when thinking of NYC, up spring images of nightlife, restaurant exploring, and food food food. We all love food, and for many of us, it’s a balancing act to maintain a healthy mentality about what we eat.

Along with this comes something that can be a total healthy-diet buster: alcohol. Yes, you will see pictures with drinks in them on this blog, but let me state for the record: I am not a big drinker. Rarely will I pick up a beer, never will I do a shot, and I’m not very adventurous with mixed drinks (definitely have my go-tos). You probably won’t be reading much about fun cocktails or raging parties on here because, well, that’s just not really my thing. Yes, I do drink, but no, I don’t think a healthy lifestyle includes copious amounts of alcohol. That’s just my opinion, and I think it’s something everyone needs to figure out how to navigate for him or herself.

I am, however, a wine girl. Not in that I drink it in mass quantities (hello, marathon training and girlish figure), but I really enjoy a nice wine. Part of the fun is finding new additions to add to my ever-growing list of “Oh that’s good, let me take a picture of that bottle” labels I have stored in my phone. It’s like a pretty photo collection, and the cooler the label, the better.

And let’s be honest: it’s almost a necessity on girls’ night. Or a dinner date. Or a weekend at the lake. Or on the boat. Or a pinic.

wine

So yes, there will be some wine talk on here, and feel free to share your faves as well. I tried a new one this past weekend, as a friend showed up to the lakehouse on Saturday with a bottle that was new to all of us and ended up being a big hit:
kaiken

Kaiken Cavernet Savignon. I’d totally love to describe it in detail for you and bring it to life, but, um, all I can say is that it’s warm and flavorful and yummy and has cool mountains on the bottle and was from Argentina, and that it was really good.

You’re welcome for that descriptive terminology.

wino
I can’t drink a lot of wine, as it a) makes me tired or b) makes me silly or c) will totally interfere with my ability to wake up and run the following morning, but as wine is sooooort of a healthier alcohol alternative (and this is a healthy living blog), I figure it’d be selfish to stumble upon new gems and not share them with you!

And so there’s my personal shpiel on how drinking fits into my own version of a healthy lifestyle. Everything in moderation, so they say. But while I’m training, I’ve certainly found less to be better. You’re welcome for that little nugget of (obvious) wisdom. πŸ™‚

Question: Are you a wine person? What’s a wine you really enjoy?
